Free access to sport for migrant women, the start of the project SU(UP)PORT REFUGEES INTEGRATION
In the next few days a new adventure will begin for Liberi Nantes: an initiative completely dedicated to migrant women who are resident in Rome or in the province. S(UP)PORT REFUGEES INTEGRATION is the project with which Liberi Nantes, in collaboration with the social cooperative IndieWatch, won the European tender which had as its objective improving the process of integration through free access to sport for all migrant women who, for different reasons, do not have the possibility of regularly practising a physical activity.
What follows is a schematic outline of the key information.
WHO WE ARE APPEALING TO
Migrant women (preferable, but not necessarily, refugees or asylum seekers) who are staying at reception centres or are resident in other structures (including private homes) in Rome and the province who are interested in taking part in a ludic-sporting course. The number of expected beneficiaries of the project is about 100. According to the number of replies, if all places are not filled, we can also consider the inclusion in the programme of women who are not migrants.
ACTIVITIES
Football – Touch Rugby – Athletics – Postural Gymnastics – Hiking.
All activities are non-competitive, prioritising play, socialising and the psycho-physical wellbeing of the participants. Every activity will be conducted by qualified instructors who will follow the girls in a professional manner.
WHERE
Football and Touch Rugby will take place at the April 25th sports grounds in Via Marica 80, Rome (10 minutes on foot from the Metro B – Pietralata stop).
Postural gymnastics will take place at the Asinitas association in Via Policastro.
Athletics can take place in various areas of the city. According to take-up, we will decide which is the best and easiest place for the participants.
Hiking will involve a programme of cultural and natural excursions with routes in the city and the province of Rome.
FREQUENCY AND DURATION
1-2 times per week. The frequency will be decided together with the participants on the basis of their needs and motivation.
The hikes will take place once a month.
The project begins in March and ends in December.
CLOTHING
All participants will be given a complete kit free of charge to carry out the activities. This will consist of: short-sleeved shirt, shorts, socks, shoes (plus leggings and long-sleeved shirts for participants who request them).
PLEASE NOTE
The activities are non-competitive. It is understood that each participant assumes responsibility for his/her health condition and informs staff as soon as possible of any health risk factors connected to taking part in non-competitive sports.
All participants will be asked for a medical certificate for non-competitive activity which must be presented within the first month of activity.
For any participants who are unable to secure a medical certificate themselves, Liberi Nantes will cover the costs of securing one.
Every participant will be covered by a personal sports insurance policy that will be valid for one year.
